Forreston High School
This facility was designed to create 2 distinct schools in the same building to gain the efficiency of shared areas. The 62,000 s.f. addition is the high school, and also houses the Media Center with dual computer labs, kitchen and student dining as shared areas. Other features include A contest gym, PE and team locker rooms, weight and training, a tech ed shop, and administrative space.
Remodeling 22,000 s.f.t in the existing building resulted in the "new" middle school with an up-to-date and expanded art room, band room, choral room, and teacher's lounge as shared spaces.
Beyond providing significant cost savings to the district, the common areas also increase staff efficiency. Special areas teachers no longer have to plan travel time and additional prep time needed to equip and use two or more classroom spaces.
